Syntactic Structure Analysis


The syntactic structure analysis program is an appropriate program to measure the spatial distribution and inter-object relation
within an image. It can be applied to all measurement programs with the exception of stereology measurements. It is based upon the
construction of relational graphs and the theory of structural entropy. The results are related to the underlying objects, i.e., nuclei,
membranes, vessels, or FISH signals. Therefore, the output results will differ from each other depending upon the underlying basic
measurements, especially for FISH.

The syntactic structure measurement program for FISH will provide you with the following results:
  • mean star red: mean number of stars (MST neighbors) of FISH-red signals
  • stnd star red: standard deviation of mean number of FISH-red stars
  • mean distance mst red: mean distance between MST FISH-red neighbors
  • stnd distance mst red: standard deviation of mean distance MST FISH-red signals
  • mean dif no FISH red (mst): mean variation of distance between MST FISH-red signals
  • stnd dif FISH red: standard deviation of mean variation of distance between MST FISH-red signals
  • mean E(MST) FISH distance red: mean MST entropy (distance only) of FISH-red signals
